Walk from our door

Three dales, one unforgettable walk

The Wolfscote Walk

A beautiful circular walk from the farm shop through three of the Peak District's most scenic dales — Beresford Dale, Wolfscote Dale and Biggin Dale. Open countryside, dramatic limestone, the winding River Dove, and the perfect place to start and finish: right here.

  1. 1

Out of our door and into Beresford Dale

The footpath starts right beside the farm shop. Follow it across the fields and down through Morson Wood, where the path drops to meet the River Dove at the head of Beresford Dale.

  2. 2

Pike Pool & the Fishing Temple

A short, wooded dale with a lot of history. Look across the river for Charles Cotton's Fishing Temple of 1674, built for his friend Izaak Walton of The Compleat Angler fame — then for Pike Pool, named after the spike of limestone that rises out of the water, not the fish.

  3. 3

Along the Dove through Wolfscote Dale

Cross the footbridges and follow the Dove south between steep limestone slopes and crags. It's one of the quietest and loveliest dales in the White Peak — keep an eye out for dippers on the water.

  4. 4

    Up Biggin Dale

Where the dry valley of Biggin Dale joins the Dove, turn left and climb gently up its rocky floor. It's part of a protected nature site, known for its limestone grassland, wildflowers and butterflies.

  5. 5

Back over the tops to Hartington

Follow the signs for Hartington along quiet lanes and field paths, with big views back across the dales, then drop down into the village — and back to us for tea and cake.

  6. Tea & cake

You've earned it. Lunch is served until 3pm (last orders 2:45pm), with cakes and drinks until 4pm — and muddy boots and dogs are welcome.

Good to know

Parking

Our own car park is small and just for café and shop customers while they're with us, so please use the pay & display car park in the village if you're heading out on the walk.

Boots on

Expect stiles, gates, stony paths and limestone that gets slippery when wet. Parts of Beresford Dale and Biggin Dale can be muddy after rain. Not suitable for pushchairs.

Dogs

Dogs are very welcome, but cows and sheep graze along the route — please keep them on a short lead. We have dog-friendly tables inside for when you get back.

Toilets

Public toilets are right next to the farm shop, at the start of the footpath.
